Why a Small Breeder Makes a Big Difference
On our two-acre ranch in western Colorado, we intentionally raise a small number of Red Fox Labrador puppies, just 1-2 litters each year. Keeping our program small allows us to give every dog individual attention, thoughtful care, and a calm, family centered environment where puppies can grow and thrive from the very beginning.
Our breeding pairs are carefully selected and health tested, and each puppy receives early socialization, routine handling, and foundational exposure to crate and potty training. This hands on approach supports confident temperaments and a smoother transition into their new homes.
Because we are a small family breeder, our relationship does not end at pickup day. We stay connected, welcome questions, and are always here to support you and your puppy as they grow.
You can't buy love. But you can buy a Labrador Retriever, which is essentially the same thing.
Puppy Love From Our Families
We’re grateful to stay connected with the families who welcomed one of our our puppies into their home. Here are a few words they have shared about their Labrador and their experience with us.
Common questions about our Red Fox Labrador puppies
Is a "fox red" labrador different than a "red fox" labrador?
No, there is no official naming standard for this color of Labrador, so both terms are commonly used. You may also see the term “fox red pointing lab,” which refers to the same type of dog. Labradors are a highly versatile breed, and dogs of any color can be trained as hunting companions, including pointing.
Can Red Fox Labradors be registered with the AKC?
Yes, they can. While the AKC does not recognize red as an official Labrador color, Red Fox Labradors are registered as yellow and are fully eligible for registration, breeding, and participation in field trials and competitions. Red Fox Labradors are simply a deep, rich shade of yellow that appears red. This is similar to very light or white Labradors, which are also registered as yellow but appear much lighter in color.
Was a Labrador bred with a fox to achieve the red color?
No, this is a common myth. Red Fox Labradors are 100 percent Labrador Retriever and have no relation to foxes. The name comes from their deep red coat color, which resembles that of a red fox. This coloration developed through selective breeding of yellow Labradors and can be traced back to early Labrador lines in Canada during the late 1800s.
How large will your Red Fox Labrador get?
Many factors influence a Labrador’s adult size, including genetics, diet, and activity level. On average, female Red Fox Labradors weigh between 55 and 70 pounds, while males are typically larger and more muscular, ranging from 65 to 85 pounds. Genetics play the biggest role in final size, and in our experience, most puppies mature to within about ten percent of their parents’ adult weight.
Will you ship a Labrador puppy to me by air?
We have chosen not to ship our puppies as airline cargo. Over time, major airlines have added restrictions on transporting live animals, making the process increasingly complex, costly, and time consuming. More importantly, travel in the cargo hold can be very stressful for puppies, and we believe avoiding that experience is in their best interest.
For these reasons, we do not currently offer cargo air shipping. We review this decision regularly and may reevaluate air travel options in the future as policies and conditions change.
That said, we do offer flexible delivery and pickup options and have successfully placed puppies with families across the United States. We are always happy to discuss safe and thoughtful alternatives to help your puppy get home.
Do you remove their dewclaws?
Updated in 2024: In the past, we routinely removed dewclaws from our puppies. However, recent veterinary research suggests that dewclaws can play a beneficial role in stability and movement for large breed dogs. Based on this information, we have changed our approach effective in 2024.
For all litters whelped after January 1, 2024, we no longer remove dewclaws. This decision reflects our ongoing commitment to making informed, thoughtful choices that support long term health and wellbeing.
