Pups are growing fast and trying to walk in week two

Our Red Fox Labrador puppies are making big strides in week two, with early movement, eyes beginning to open, and continued care from Ginger. This update includes health notes and current weights.

Week two has flown by, and the puppies are doing wonderfully. Some have started taking their first wobbly steps, and a few are just beginning to peek their eyes open.

Ginger is still providing round-the-clock care, but she’s starting to take short breaks outside of the whelping box. During the first week, she rarely left their side except for meals and quick potty breaks. Now she’s becoming more comfortable stepping away for short periods while the puppies sleep.

By week three, we’ll begin introducing puppy mush as we slowly transition them away from mom for some feedings. Before we know it, all eyes will be fully open and those tiny puppy teeth will start to appear. Once teething begins, Ginger will naturally stop nursing. Those sharp little teeth can’t be very comfortable for her.

The puppies received their first dose of Pyrantel on Sunday. This helps keep them healthy and free from roundworms and other parasites, which is very common in young puppies as their immune systems continue to develop.

A Fun Family Trait

Ginger’s AKC registered name is Ginger White Claw, and no, it has nothing to do with the adult beverage. Ginger has a white toe on her back right paw, and a few of the puppies share this same trait, just like their mom.

Green, Aqua, and Purple all have white toes on their back right paw.

More pupdates coming soon as these Red Fox Labrador puppies continue to grow and explore their world.
