Our latest litter of round Red Fox Labrador puppies from Ginger and Kai arrived on September 15, 2024. Ginger delivered nine puppies total, four males and five females.
Because they arrived a few days early, their birth weights were a little on the low side, but we’re happy to report that every puppy has gained significant weight over the past week. Birth weights ranged from 280–300 grams, and as you’ll see below, they have more than doubled in size already. These pups are healthy, strong eaters and off to a great start.
Week One Personality & Development
Every litter is unique, and this group is a noisy bunch in the best way possible. They make more adorable puppy noises than any of our previous litters at this age.
At just one week old, they are still 100 percent dependent on Ginger, and she is doing a wonderful job caring for them. She feeds them, cleans them, and keeps them warm. It’s hard not to smile when you peek in and see a pile of round Red Fox Labrador puppies curled up together, fast asleep.
Right now, they are only awake and active two to three hours a day, but that will change quickly as they grow. For now, life is simple: eat, sleep, repeat.
Physical Changes to Watch For
At birth, puppies have closed eyes, pink noses, and pink paw pads. That’s already starting to change. Their paw pads are darkening each day, which is a good sign, and their eyes will begin to open sometime between weeks three and four.
Once they can see and start moving around, that’s when our real work begins.
Current Puppy Weights (Descending Order)
We often receive questions about birth order, runt size, and which puppies are the darkest. At just one week old, puppies grow and change rapidly. Size and color will shift from week to week, and all puppies will continue to darken as their coats develop.
Here are their current weights, listed from heaviest to lightest:
- Brown (M) – 910 grams
- Purple (M) – 885 grams
- Pink (F) – 860 grams
- Green (M) – 820 grams
- Red (M) – 772 grams
- Aqua (F) – 751 grams
- Lime (F) – 727 grams
- Orange (F) – 720 grams
- Yellow (F) – 705 grams
Birth Order & AKC Registration Notes
For AKC registration purposes, the birth date is recorded as the date when the majority of puppies were born. Since only one puppy arrived after midnight, September 15, 2024 will be listed as the official birth date for the entire litter, even though Orange technically arrived on September 16th.
Birth order is as follows:
- Purple (M) – 10:11 PM
- Aqua (F) – 10:20 PM
- Yellow (F) – 10:37 PM
- Pink (F) – 10:55 PM
- Brown (M) – 11:07 PM
- Lime (F) – 11:47 PM
- Red (M) and Green (M) – 11:50 PM Twins born simultaneously in the same placenta
- Orange (F) – 12:18 AM
